Sainsbury School Sports Hambleton tag rugby final 04/07/2017

On Tuesday 4th July a mixed team of girls and boys took part in the Hambleton Area Tag rugby competition at Thirsk School. It was a very wet evening and a special mention should go to Megan who not only managed to carry on playing with completely water blurred glasses but also scored some amazing tries!

Well done to all the team who played fantastically well and came second overall and being denied a place in the North Yorkshire finals by only 1 try!!

Small schools Yr 5/6 hockey tournament 2017

On 27th March 2017, three mixed teams from South Otterington took part in the Yr 5/6 Small schools hockey competition at Northallerton. The game play and attitude from all three teams was outstanding even when the teams had to face each other. Extremely well done for coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Its a shame that North Yorkshire no longer do a Sainsbury Competition for the 5/6s as they would have been very strong contenders for a North Yorkshire final.

Digital Leaders

Some of our Year 4 children enjoyed a range of ‘digital’ activities at an event which was held at Catterick Leisure Centre this week. The Swaledale Alliance organised the day, which was  attended by a number of local schools. The children worked really well in their groups and were able to try some new resources, such as: Crumble Controllers; QR Readers; MagicTatts and Osmo Coding to name but a few.

Sainsbury School sports Yr 5/6 Netball competition 14/02/2017

Y5/6 Tennis Tournament

On Friday 16th September 2016 Matthew, Tom, Elena and Harli were invited to a tennis tournament at Northallerton Tennis Club to participate in a competition.  It was a doubles competition  (unmixed). There were 6 schools including us there. It was group stages and both of the two teams won their group stage. Then there was the quarter-finals which the boys won 10-4 and the girls narrowly won at the score 5-4. The semis were a different matter , where the boys bossed them 10-1 and the girls won 7-4!!!! The finals were tense but both teams came out on top with the boys winning 10-5 and the girls winning 6-4. We were awarded gold medals and a cheer from our friends when we got back to school!!!

Overall it was a good day for sport!!!

Sainsbury Yr 5/6 Small Schools Cricket tournament 15/06/2016

On a rather cool and cloudy Wednesday in June, two teams – made up of sixteen children from our school took part in the small schools cricket tournament. Both teams were absolutely fantastic. The Black team scored a phenomenal amount of 4s and 6s, took wickets and caught players out and went on to be the winners of the tournament. The Red Team also played fantastically well, again with 4s and 6s scored by every member of the team and loads of wickets taken by their star bowler Freddie! They may not have received medals for their efforts but they should feel incredibly proud of themselves for their performances. Well done both teams and Good Luck to the Black Team in the Hambleton area Finals on Friday!

Day 4 / 5

Unfortunately sports day was postponed until Day 5. However sports day turned out to be a fantastic day for both key stage 1 and key stage 2. All of the children were absolutely great with lots of cheering and support and 100% effort in all that they did. Congratulations to Joe Tosh and Louisa Tann who won the trophies for the Year 6s with the most sports day wins and to the Puffins who were the winning House Team on the day. What a fantastic end to a happily exhausting week!!

Sainsbury School Games North Yorkshire Cross Country Final 17/03/16

xcountry final xcountry4 xcountry final 2On Thursday 17th March 2016, Megan Edwards and Lawrence Mason-Smith (both Year 3 children) and myself, Elena Edwards (Year 5), travelled to Dalby Forest to compete in the North Yorkshire cross country finals. Luckily it was a nice sunny day, so we had loads of fun!

The race track was set next to a park so all the other children could stretch and get ready for their race coming up.

We all did very well – Megan came 6th, Lawrence came 25th and I came 25th. It was great because the race went into a forest which helped us to cool down. We raced against different areas around the county including: Selby, Scarborough, Ryedale and Whitby, York, Richmondshire and Craven.
